Working out how physiotherapy fits into your aged care funding can feel like one more thing to figure out, on top of everything else. The answer depends on where you are in the process. Here’s what it looks like at each stage, and how Bayside Mobile Physio fits in.
If you’re still waiting on funding approval
Approval can take time, and mobility problems don’t wait for paperwork. You don’t need funding in place to start physiotherapy — you’re welcome to begin sessions with us privately in the meantime, billed at our standard private rate.
Worth knowing upfront: private sessions aren’t backdated or reimbursed once your funding comes through, aged care packages don’t cover costs paid beforehand. What starting early does give you is a head start on your recovery or mobility goals instead of losing ground while your application is processed. If you’d like to continue with the same physio once you’re approved, you can ask your care manager to bring Bayside in specifically. It’s their decision to make, not an automatic transition, but it’s a straightforward request.
If you’ve recently been approved
Once you’re approved, you’ll be matched with an approved provider — the organisation that manages your funding and coordinates your services. They’ll assign you a care manager, who becomes your main point of contact, and it’s the provider who decides which physiotherapist you’re allocated, unless you ask for someone specific.
Physiotherapy isn’t always added automatically. It’s worth raising it directly with your care manager and asking for it to be included in your care plan. If you’ve been seeing Bayside privately, or you’d like to request us by name, tell your care manager — we’re not an approved provider ourselves, so the request needs to go through them, and the final call is theirs.
If you already have funding and a care manager
If you’re already set up with an approved provider, adding physiotherapy is usually a simple conversation. Ask your care manager whether it’s already part of your plan. If you’d like Bayside specifically, ask them to engage us. From there, we coordinate directly with your provider, and your visits are arranged around you.
Why physiotherapy runs through your provider, not directly with us
Bayside Mobile Physio isn’t registered as an approved provider with My Aged Care, so we can’t accept a referral code or manage your budget directly. Instead, we work as a specialist physiotherapy service that your approved provider brings in on your behalf.
In practice, this means your care manager stays in charge of your overall plan and funding, and we focus purely on your physiotherapy — mobility, strength, falls prevention, or recovery — in your own home. You’re not managing two separate relationships; your provider and your physio work it out between them.
Not sure where you’re at?
If you’re unsure which stage applies to you, or you want help starting the conversation with your care manager, get in touch and we’ll point you in the right direction.
